Aim
Urbanite Camps aim to train and inspire young people to work, pursue a career and bring growth in the local outdoor industry. The overarching aims for this training apprenticeship are to:
- Provide candidates with transferable skills though 12 months of training and engaging work.
- Provide a pathway for those that would like to pursue a career in either the outdoor industry or youth work.
- Allow for a progression into further employment at Urbanite Camps and other partner adventure companies locally and internationally.
Progression
Progression from the apprenticeship depends on the individual and how well they engage in the course. The typical progression’s apprentices can achieve are:
- Direct employment as a seasonal instructor in outdoor centers across the world
- Entry level skills and experience to become a freelance Instructor
- Possible pathway to higher level apprenticeships
During your twelve months with us, you will learn how to run safe, fun and engaging sessions and gain several in-house industry-recognised instructor qualifications.

Course Fees
Cost: TBA
Fees include- all training and assessment, training equipment, camping accommodation for 4 days and PSV transport to and from venue.
Your course payment will cover all training, in-house qualifications and assessments.
Overnight/ multi-day expeditions, camps and day trips during training.
Paid opportunities to shadow our experienced team.
Attend workshops delivered by industry experts.
Year-round part time paid outdoor jobs.
This is a hybrid course involving in-person as well as virtual training. After the initial training period, apprentices will be remunerated as per job worked since this is a part-time working position. University students and freelancers are encouraged to apply.
Skills Required
There is a high expectation that individuals have a level of interpersonal skills relevant to personal development and interacting with people (especially children) with the potential that over time they would be able to lead and be responsible for groups of people participating in outdoor activities. With this in mind, here is a list of attributes essential to the position:
- A commitment and enthusiasm for high standards of service provision.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally
- Able to work effectively under pressure including the ability to prioritize workload in a team setting
- The ability and willingness to work flexible hours in-person and virtually (laptop and internet needed)
- Proactive team player with good communication skills
- Passion for working with children of all ages, youth and adults
- Impress with your enthusiasm for the outdoors
- Commitment to personal development for self and others
- Patient, self-aware and able to self-correct
- Considerable level of physical fitness and can swim
